The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin is again offering scholarships to Wisconsin high school golfers, both those who play in the fall high school season and those who play in the spring high school season. Depending on the applications we receive, our hope is to award two scholarships in the amount of $2,000, granting one to our top fall player applicant, and giving the same to our top spring player applicant. Depending on the quality of the applications and then the decisions of the committee and the association board, we may also award runner up scholarships to both fall and spring player applicants. These runner up awards could range from $250 to $1,000, depending on how many applications are chosen as winners. In 2023 we awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships. Each applicant must meet the following requirements:
- A member of a high school golf team for four years. If the COVID-19 pandemic shut down your school’s ability to hold one of your seasons, the applicant simply needed to be a part of the team in all the possible years of your high school attendance.
- Must be a senior in high school, graduating in the spring of 2024.
- Must attend a college, university, or technical school in the fall semester, immediately following graduation.
- The coach of the applicant’s high school golf team must be a member of the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin. A letter of recommendation from your golf coach is an important part of this application.
- Must have at least a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 based on an unweighted grading system. Students with an official IEP may be exempt from this requirement upon proof of disability.
The GCAW Scholarship Committee will be looking for proof of:
- Dedication, commitment, and work ethic.
- Excellence in areas of service, citizenship, character, and leadership.
- Excellence in academics and depth of curriculum. Please note that the GCAW will not discriminate based on race, religion, ethnicity, disability, or any other protected class. The GCAW will maintain case histories of all applicants and all recipients, which will include names, addresses, selection committee names, and relationships (if any) to our GCAW officers or donors.
*This scholarship is not in any way based on high school golf performance or potential for future golf success.
*No student who is an immediate relative of a member of the Board of the GCAW will be eligible for the scholarship award, regardless if he or she meets all of the requirements.
*If the winner of this scholarship is attending college on any form of a golf scholarship, they will need to
check with their college coach and the NCAA for approval before accepting this scholarship
Please note that the application, along with all other required information, should be submitted no later than June 1, 2024. The winners of the scholarship will be announced on or just after June 19. Scholarship winners will be informed via email, and our winners will also be posted on the GCAW website, and announced via Twitter @GCAOWI .
