Nominees for the Week of May 7-May 12

Tyler Leach – Spring Valley – Senior
Tyler has had a great season and topped it all off with a 67 (-4) at the Dunn-St Croix Conference Championship hosted at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. Other notable wins last week: Finished his last regular season invite with a win at his home Spring Valley Golf Course shooting a 72 (E). He played a conference match at Durand earlier in the week and shot 72 (E).

Drew Sagrillo – Marquette – Junior
Drew shot 69 at North Shore CC to win the Homestead Invite to win by 3 shots. Drew also shot 66 at Washington County in the Hartford Invite to win by 2 shots. Finally Drew shot 37-38 in two GMC mini meets.

Ty Mueller – Living Word Lutheran High School – Freshman
Ty started the week off strong with a personal low of 38 (3rd Place) at Ironwood Golf Course in our final conference meet. Then, he capped off the week with an impressive 78 at the Washington County Invite. Both rounds found him on the Living Word record books! It’s been an impressive first season for the freshman, as he’s only gotten better as the season has progressed.

  • How can a player get nominated?
    • Coaches who are members of the GCAW can nominate any player they feel is deserving of the award
  • When are nomination due?
    • Nominations are due on Monday
  • Should I include results from a few weeks ago?
    • No, only the results from the previous week will be considered
  • Is this an award only for the “best” players?
    • No, we are looking for players that have other valuable qualities including leadership, sportsmanship, etc… or someone who had a major accomplishment
  • When does voting take place?
    • Voting starts Tuesday morning and goes until Thursday evening
  • Who can vote?
    • Anyone and everyone can vote! Please spread the word to get as many people as possible voting.
    • You can vote once per day from a computer or mobile device

2017 GCAW Players of the Week

Week 4: Mason Kent – Fort Atkinson
Mason Kent carded a team leading (38) during his last home dual battle against Madison Edgewood to complete his storied high school dual meet career.  Mason’s team leading 3 over par (77) at the challenging par 74 layout at the Columbus Invitational was enough to lead the team to its second invitational win of the season, and secure himself a second place individual medal!

Week 3Derek Vaillancourt – Fort Atkinson
This week Derek fired a 41 (co-medalist) in our home dual win against Oregon. Gaining confidence daily, Derek fired a solid 2 under Par 70 taking home Division 2 Medalist honors, and securing a win for the Blackhawks at the 24 team 2017 Ashenfelter Invitational at Riverside Golf Course this weekend.

Week 2: Ben Gilles: Edgewood of the Sacred Heart
On Tuesday at the Badger South Conference Dual meet vs. Milton at Nakoma Golf Club, Ben shot 35 and was the low round of the day. On Thursday, at the Morgan Stanley Invite at University Ridge, a twelve team invite, Ben won the invite with a score of 74. On Friday, at the Onalaska Invite at the La Crosse Country Club, an eighteen team invite, Ben shot 76 and placed fifth.

Week 1: Harrison Ott: Marquette University High School
Harrison placed first out of 129 golfers at the Washington County Invitational with a superb 68 (4-under) under chilly, windy conditions. He won by 4 strokes ahead of the next player’s 72.


2016 GCAW Players of the Week

May 15-21 – Matt Bachmann – Sheboygan Falls High School
Matt started the week off with a 2 under par 70 at Fox Hills National to secure an Individual and Team Conference win. Two days later he shot a 1 over 73 at Branch River CC to secure EWC Player of the Year for the 4th year in a row at our Conference Championship. His efforts lead his team to an undefeated season in conference play and their 5th straight Eastern Wisconsin Conference Championship.

May 2-7 – Brady Thomas – Middleton
Brady began the week in a conference triangular match at Sun Prairie CC, shooting a 79 and placing tied for fourth.  He then fired a 1 over par 72 at the Legends Invitational at Bristlecone Pines, tying for 2nd place.  Brady finished the week in the Morgan Stanley Shootout at University Ridge tied for 1st with a 2 day total of 147.  Brady’s Day 2 score of 70 was -2 for the day.

April 25-30 – Luke Bourneuf – Lake Geneva Badger
On Monday, Luke shot 74 at the 24 Team Geneva National Invite and finished 2nd. Tuesday, Luke again finished 2nd by shooting a 79 at the Southern Lake Conference Major at Geneva National. Luke continued his busy week on Wednesday by shooting 76 to finish 4th at the Brookfield Central Best Ball Invite. On Saturday, Luke Bourneuf won the 24 team “Kaz” Invite at New Berlin Hills. Logan battled the wind and rain to shoot 74 to win by 2 shots.

April 18-23 – Sean Yun – Brookfield Central
Sean won the competitive Waukesha County Championship at Naga Waukee (day 1) and Wanaki (day 2) by shooting a stellar two day total of 72-73: 145

April 11-16 – Jacob Michel – Lodi 
Jacob Michel was the medalist in the three varsity events that Lodi played in this week. On Monday, Luther Prep hosted the second conference meet at Windwood of Watertown in very windy conditions and Jacob shot a one over 37 helping Lodi win. Thursday, Lodi hosted a duel with Milton at the Lodi Golf Club and Jacob shot a par 35 in Lodi’s victory. Then in the Milton Scramble on Saturday, Jacob with his partner and teammate Logan Walzer, together shot a scramble record 12 under 60.


2015 GCAW Players of the Week

September 14-19 – Sarah Busey
Congratulations to Sarah Busey (Racine St. Catherine’s) for being named GCAW Player of the Week for Sept 14-19. Sarah continued her great play this season by winning the Racine County Invitational with a 79, and then shot a 71 to win the Waukesha invite by 4 shots. Sarah received 57.8% of the vote.

September 7-12 – Ashley Kulka
Congratulations to Ashley Kulka (Beaver Dam) for being named GCAW Player of the Week for September 7-12. Ashley shot a 73 to win the very competitive Fond du Lac High School Invitational at Rolling Meadows. Ashley received 71.5% of the votes.

May 18-23 – Logan Walzer
Logan Walzer shot a 6 under par 65 at the 46th Annual Capitol Conference Golf Tournament on May 20th. His Medalist round breaks the previous record by three stokes. Logan fires a bogey free round only one shot off of The Oaks golf course (par 71) all time record of 64. He helped propel the Lodi Golf team to a record three under team score of 281 beating the team scoring record by nine strokes.

May 11-16 – Brady Sarauer
Brady shot 41 in a Flyway Conf. mini-meet on Tuesday on a cold/rainy day at Mayville Golf Club.  On Friday he shot 33/38-71 in a double Flyway Conf. mini-meet at Rolling Meadows.  Brady finished his week on Saturday by shooting even par 72 in the 14 team Viking Invite at Rolling Meadows. Over Friday and Saturday he had a stretch of 29 holes without a bogey!

May 4-9 – Ben Gilles 
Ben Gilles of Madison Edgewood had a busy week playing in four meets.  Monday, Ben shot 39 vs Oregon at Foxboro Golf Club which tied for 3rd place.  Tuesday in one of the deepest fields of the season, Ben shot 76 to tie for 6th at the Legends Invite at Bristlecone Pines.  Wednesday-Thursday, Ben shot a two day total of 150 at University Ridge to finish 2nd at the Morgan Stanley Shoot-Out.  Ben finished the week on Saturday by shooting 79 to finish t-3 at Whistling Straits in the Blue Bomber Invite.

April 27-May 2 – Bennett Knapek
Bennett Knapek broke the Arrowhead H.S. 18-hole school record by firing a 6-under 66 at the Ashenfelter Invite at Riverside G.C. in Janesville on Saturday. His score ties the meet record for the Invite which is the oldest running high school boys golf Invite in the state. (62 years!)  Bennett also shot a pair of 36s during the week at Merrill Hills and Chenequa C.C.

April 20-25 – Emmet Herb
Emmet started the week by shooting 79 in the WPGA Invite at Maple Bluff finishing in a tie for 4th.  On Tuesday, he fired a 77 at Yahara in a conference match which tied for 3rd place.  Emmet finished the week by battling cold and windy conditions at Whistling Straits to shoot a 78 and finish 2nd.


2014 GCAW Players of the Week

September 15-20 – Grace Dunn
Grace had a great week winning two invites. She took 1st place in the Waukesha County Championship (14 teams) with a 3 over par 75, and then she followed it up winning the Appleton West Invite (23 teams) on Saturday with a 1 under par 71.

September 8-13 – Valerie Evans
Valerie’s dedication and hard work has been paying off as she shot two personal bests this week. On Tuesday, Val shot a 46 in a conference match against Mt Horeb at Norsk Golf and Bowl. She then capped off the week on Saturday by shooting a 92, her second personal best of the week, at the Janesville Parker Invite at Riverside Golf Course.

August 18-23 – Bailey Schmidt
Bailey, a junior from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, had a busy week playing in four 18 hole tournaments. She was medalist with a 79 at the Tomah Tune-up on Monday. Tuesday/Wednesday she finished tied for 2nd at the WI Dells Invite shooting a two day total of 78-76:154 and then finished out the week by winning the LaCrosse Country Club Invite with a 79.

May 19-25 – Jacob Michel
Jacob Michel of Lodi has been selected as the GCAW Player of the Week for the week of May 19-25. Jacob finished with 68.1% of the vote. Finishing in 2nd place was Matt Bachmann of Sheboygan Falls with 23.9% of the vote.

On Wednesday, Jacob shot a Captial Conference Championship record three under 68 at the Capital Conference Championship at The Oaks to claim the conference Player of the Year. That performance propelled his team to shot a 290 to claim the Capital Conference title.

May 12-18 – Trevor Thomas
Trevor Thomas of SPASH has been selected as the GCAW Player of the Week for the week of May 12-18. Trevor finished with 48.3% of the vote. Finishing in 2nd place was Philip Johnson of Germantown with 32.1% of the vote.

Trevor started the week on Monday at the Old Abe Invite. He carded a 2 under 70, shooting a blistering 32 on the back nine which included 2 birdies and an eagle. Tuesday rolled around and he took his team to the 4th Leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet at Greenwood Hill Country Club. There he again took 1st overall with a 1 over 73. Finally, Trevor traveled to Merrill Golf Course and again shot 1 over 73 and took first at the 5th leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet.

May 5-11 – Josh Haunty
Josh Haunty of Middleton has been selected as the GCAW Player of the Week for the week of May 5-11. Josh finished with 83.7% of the vote. Finishing in 2nd place was Ben Johnson of Eau Claire Memorial with 9.2% of the vote.

Josh Haunty of Middleton got off to a good start this week by tying for 1st with a 75 at a conference triangular at Bishop’s Bay on Monday. Tuesday he shot another 75 and tied for 5th at the loaded Briggs & Stratton Invite held at The Legend’s at Bristlecone Pines. Josh finished the week by winning the two-day Morgan Stanley Invite at University Ridge with scores of 75-70: 145

April 28-May 4 – Gavin Stutz
Gavin Stutz of Waukesha North has been selected as the GCAW Player of the Week for the week of April 28 – May 4. Gavin finished with 45.1% of the vote. Finishing in 2nd place was Eddie Wajda of Brookfield Central with 42.2%.

Gavin Stutz tied for 2nd at the Classic 8 Conference meet on Tuesday with a 2 over 37. He then won the 21 team Greendale Invite held at Morningstar by 3 strokes with a 4 under 68.

April 21-27 – Robert Petitjean
Robert Petitjean of Notre Dame Academy has been selected as the GCAW Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27. Robert finished with 60.5% of the vote. Finishing in 2nd place was Danny Cronick of Osceola with 37.2%.

Robert had four top ten finishes including two wins this week. He won the 18 team Sheboygan Invite with a 3 under par 69. That round tied the school record at Notre Dame. He also won the 12 team Fox River Classic Conference Meet with a 37. Robert tied for 3rd with an 80 in the Brown County Meet at Wander Springs and tied for 7th with a 79 at the 32 team Lake County Charity Invite at Brown Deer.
